About the event

Did you know that the origin of Halloween comes from the Festival of Samhain in Ireland’s Celtic past? This festival marked the end of the summer and signified the beginning of a new year. As the end of the year, it was believed that the souls of the departed would return to their former homes on the 31st of October. Given the Celtic roots of this holiday steeped in tradition, the Irish have developed many customs for Halloween over the years. Join us for some of our favorite Irish Halloween traditions!

The historic Hugh Torance House and Store is the oldest-standing store in NC and one of Mecklenburg County’s few surviving 18th-century structures. Step back in time, to 1779, and explore this incredible living history experience by reserving your tickets for a guided tour presented by our amazing historians at 2:00pm. Come early or plan to stay after your tour,…
