About the event

The historic Hugh Torance House and Store is the oldest-standing store in NC and one of Mecklenburg County’s few surviving 18th-century structures. Step back in time, to 1779, and explore this incredible living history experience by reserving your tickets for a guided tour presented by our amazing historians at 3:00pm. Come early or plan to stay after your tour, the Hugh Torance House and Store is open every Sunday from 1:00-4:00, with this guided living history tour beginning at 3:00pm and lasting about one hour. Following the tour, a traditional craft demonstration will take place and guests may participate in the making of their own traditional craft to take home!

In addition to experiencing the history of the site, the Store offers locally made goods like honey and artisan crafts ad well as books, gifts, and more! The site is also adjacent to another amazing historical property, Cedar Grove, the National Register brick 1831 Greek Revival home of James Torance, son of Hugh and Isabella Torance.

There is no fee to reserve your living history tour tickets, but your generous donations are most welcome.
