About the event

Valentine's with a historic flair and artistic twist! A true 1854 HEARTS connection between Richard Torrance, grandson to Hugh Torance, and the first published black poet in the South, the enslaved African American poet George Moses Horton. 

 

Featuring a performance and reading by award-winning actor, playwright, and director Michael D. Connor, reading Don Tate’s children’s biography of Horton. Following the reading will be a craft workshop where attendees create valentines with poetry and collage, utilizing historic and artisanal techniques and materials.  Refreshments and supplies included.
