About the event

HEARTS Sacred Grounds ‘24 is the second annual event exploring research into the burial grounds of enslaved people in our region.  Last year’s event sparked the realization of the parallel stories of many churches in our area in which burial grounds of the enslaved have been found over the wall of the church’s primary cemetery.  Dr. Julia Moore with UNC Charlotte is conducting a multi-year research project and sharing her research goals and recent findings.  Live music, nature notes, and more, this is a free community event, tickets are required, and donations are appreciated. HEARTS is excited to welcome musical guest, Horns of Glory, to Sacred Grounds '24. First organized in the mid-1980s at the United House of Prayer in Charlotte’s Third Ward, the group has performed all over the East Coast, backing gospel legends like Shirley Cesar and Gospel Keynotes. Blues and jazz undertones can be heard in their spiritually driven, street-band-style gospel music.
